As the first hints of autumn emerged, the passion for learning filled the air. On the afternoon of August 25th, a specialized training session aimed at enhancing homeroom teachers’ core competence was held at Wuxi United World College as scheduled. This training session successfully marked the commencement of the new semester by facilitating a productive exchange of insights among the teaching staff. The training was led by Mr. Wang Jie, an experienced homeroom teacher from Shanghai Jing’an District United World Pingming School. Drawing upon years of experience, he shared insights on how to strengthen class cohesion and support homeroom teachers’ professional growth through cultural development, activity design, and team collaboration—covering aspects such as educating through culture, activities, and practical experiences.

Mr. Wang Jie shared his experience in building a unique class culture by using the “Sunshine Squadron” as an example, where students were encouraged to independently design their class emblem and motto. He pioneered innovative programs including seasonal studies, a three-phase museum learning model, and community service activities—ensuring every student’s participation was recognized. His classroom management philosophy of “empowerment without abdication” was implemented through democratic elections, student-led activities, and personalized parent-teacher communication, effectively enhancing class cohesion and fostering students’ sense of responsibility.

“A homeroom teacher’s true fulfillment comes from witnessing students’ long-term growth.” This statement resonated deeply and left a profound impact on everyone’s mind. Education only happens when we truly connect with children’s hearts. The training session received an enthusiastic response and sparked lively interaction among all participants. The educational philosophy which emphasizes the influence between lives created profound resonance among the teachers. During the discussion session, educators further explored distinctive management strategies for bilingual environments: how to foster class identity in a cross-cultural learning environment, how to achieve effective parent-teacher communication across cultural contexts, and how to organically blend traditional Chinese culture with international curricula. This training not only provided practical classroom management skills but also reignited the participants’ passion for education.
