The Lantern Festival falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. This is the first full moon of Chinese New Year, symbolizing unity and perfection. This is also the last day of the Chinese New Year Celebrations. People will eat yuanxiao on this day, so it is also called the Yuanxiao Festival.
In order to let the children experience the festival atmosphere, understand the traditional festival culture, feel the charm of traditional festivals, the primary department of Wuxi Xiehe International School held the Lantern Festival activity.
In the morning students were so excited to guess the riddles. Look! Their eyes were flashing the wisdom of light and they were competing for the prizes. That was quite intense. Students tried their best and all were harvested.
G1-G2
In the afternoon, the activity really started! Grade one and two children were intently listening to the teachers explaining the origin of the Lantern Festival, food and customs. A “yuanxiao” nursery rhyme made the children singing the joy and happiness of the song. Finally the children made their own lanterns with the recycle materials under the guidance of the teachers. What a busy and fun day!
G3-G4
After learning about Lantern Festival customs in various places, the students in Grades 3 and 4 started to make their dragon and lion dance crafts! The imagination of the children really surprised us. Look, they were dancing with their own handcrafts. This energetic activity was deeply loved by children!
G5-G6
The students in grades 5 and 6 are really lucky today. The sweet dumplings made by them were full of joy and blessings. After finishing making the sweet dumplings, they took some home and shared the joy with their parents. Such sweet “yuanxiao” must be delicious!
On such a joyful day, we once again wish everyone a happy Lantern Festival! May all the warmth and touch of today accompany us forever. I wish you all healthy and happy in the New Year!
