In the beginning of the GengziYear, the Novel Coronavirus disturbed our lives unexpectedly, a war without smoke quietly started in China. In the face of a sudden and unknown new virus; a group of medical staff came to help the patients without hesitations.
The rising number of confirmed cases every day and the news of extremely scarce medical supplies affected the hearts of every Chinese. At this touching moment, the Wuxi United International School SLT members and parents can’t sit still without doing something good for these beautiful people.Recently the N95 masks have always been out of stock, it is difficult for everyone to purchase regular medical supplies in large quantities.
Last 18th of February, 2000 pieces of N95 masks arrived at the Wuxi Center for Disease Control and Prevention after 20 days. However, the arrival of these masks did not come easy.

On January 31, a lovely parent provided the WUIS PSG (Parent Support Group) with the good news -that there are a number of N95 masks that meet EU (European Union) standards in Germany. The PSG immediately discussed this with the school and decided to purchase the masks to donate them to Wuxi Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That day, the parent purchased the 2000 pieces of N95 masks and sent them immediately from Germany to Shanghai.
Everything seems to be going well, but due to a statement issued by WHO on the evening of January 30, Geneva time, the novel coronavirus epidemic in China was escalated to “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” (PHEIC). At this moment, the masks have landed safely in Shanghai, but due to the influence of PHEIC, cannot be cleared from the customs, thus all the masks were returned to Germany. The seller offered full refund and discontinue with the transaction.
As the parents of PSG knew the importance of these masks as one of the life-saving materials needed in China, they did not give up. After several days of negotiations, they decided to send the masks to another country with less restriction before sending them over to China.
Last February 14, the masks finally arrived in China (again).
On February 15, the masks were successfully cleared in Shanghai. However, at this time, the logistics industry had just resumed work and its operating capacity was in short supply. In order to ensure that the masks arrive in Wuxi safely, some parents proposed to go to Shanghai to bring them back to Wuxi. In the end, it took Jingdong three days to deliver the valuable masks to the Wuxi Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
2000 pieces of N95 masks,20 days and nights, in coordination with the school, parents’ help finally arrived. These supplies may be little in number, can only help a few medical staff on the front line nevertheless; the involvement of Wuxi United International School and parents’ effort to help in preventing the epidemic is extraordinary.
Aside from the donation to Wuxi Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the PSG also purchased protective materials for the school. Up to now, there are many PSG members involved in this activity. Masks, disinfectants, thermometers, etc. were all in place, which show great love from school’s PSG members.

WUIS will also help with Wuxi Center for Disease Control and Prevention regarding translating Children Picture Books and teenage Reading Books about the Novel Coronavius, and contribute to the fight against the epidemic.
As The Co-principal of WUIS,Ms.Angel Lin said:At Wuxi United International School, students not only learn the knowledge from the book, but also the responsibility. You can also see the responsibility of the teachers, students, and parents to the society. In facing the epidemic, let us work together and wait for the spring flowers!
