In the Spring Festival of 2020, the sudden outbreak of a novel coronavirus has made the people live in a unique situation. In order to fight against the epidemic together, many of the most beautiful heroes have emerged: medical staff, police, community workers, social volunteers, and more. What we can do in the fight against the “epidemic” is staying at home.

While the epidemic situation may stop people being together, it may not thwart our desire for knowledge. It may prevent us from arriving at the school campus as scheduled, but it will not block our enthusiasm for learning online. The new learning mode was featured on February 4th. As a psychological teacher, I always pay attention to even the smallest of emotions in your studies. I will share with you from the four aspects – recognition, emotion, behavior, and situation. If you are in need, please read carefully and also help share with others.

Recognition: accept the discipline of early arrival
Autonomous learning is a skill in the quest for higher education and career placement. The epidemic lets us try this skill in advance. The school provides us with high-quality and sufficient learning resources. We should seek treasure from these resources and improve our comprehensive qualities. I believe that most senior students are familiar with the principle of autonomous learning and have this ability. For the middle and lower-grade students, there may still be some difficulties in this approach of learning. Yet you need to think that the students around you are all on the same starting line. We can face this difficulty together. In support we have teachers’ online Question-and-Answer (Q and A) sessions; and we have parents’ accompanying. Teachers will review the important and difficult points with you after the school starts.

Emotionally: accept the failure and make small progress
There may be some small difficulties when you are new to online learning. These challenges are normal. If you find that you do not want to sleep on time at night, you do not want to get up in the morning, you do not want to get used to online classes, and you do not want to have a way to do things … these are normal phenomena, and you need to gradually adapt to this process. As one small thing is conquered so may one other small thing. If you don’t do well today, tell yourself: it doesn’t matter, I’m learning to adapt! The teachers are also searching for incremental progress, and to find ways to assist students in adapting a little each day. I believe that you will do better and better as time progress. You need to pay attention to the improvements / progress made each day. It is in this you may make yourselves more confident.

行为上:安排具体的日常规划
Behavior is often determined by plans of action. Make your own schedule according to the school schedule. If you often forget your schedule, use your own ways to increase your attention to it. For example, hang a big calendar in a prominent place at home / write down your schedule on it, or set an alarm clock for yourself. If your schedule is interrupted, note the day and time and reason, and then reschedule accordingly.

Situation: ask for outside help
It is not easy to manage oneself at home. It is important to seek guidance from teachers and parents. Use the full range of available resources. Ask teachers or parents to help remind you of your schedule and daily tasks. Parents and teachers may monitor your learning behaviors. Offer external rewards to help you stay committed to the learning process. Always be mindful of progress; allow yourself to appreciate the benefits of your diligence.

In order to help everyone quickly / effectively adapt to the new learning model, we have established a QQ Group for consultation and communication. At the same time, a female teacher Ms Zhao has joined the psychological counseling team. If the girls don’t want to communicate with Mr. Guo, they can also confide in Ms Zhao. It’s our responsibility to protect your secrets.

The battle on this “epidemic” will be short-lived, and difficulties will be overcome. As of February 19, 2020, the epidemic situation in China (except Hubei) had dropped for 16 days in a row, and the growth in the last three days had dropped to double digits.

“The battle has not yet been successful.” Students should continue to do a good job of protecting yourselves while learning. Do not act carelessly; be safe, be smart, be healthy. I believe that the warm Spring will come soon, and I am looking forward to meeting you in the beautiful campus.
