During the online learning period we need all our students to stay healthy and positive.
In order to keep mentally healthy and to keep physical healthy, it is important to do regular exercise.
Regular Exercise
Our Direct of Sports Paul Beltrame suggests
Consistency! This is the key. Many of us will put all our efforts into a short period and then stop thinking we have done enough to ward off the evil spirits of stress, illness and unhealthy lifestyle. However exercise is a powerful, natural stress reliever that will flood your body with feel good endorphins. If you can’t get to the gym, just as many of us can not at present moment there are many body weight exercises that we can all do at home which involve major muscle groups for strength as well as cardiovascular fitness for the heart and lungs. Best of all, you only need to do 20 minutes a day, 3 to 4 times a week to not only see progress in your fitness and appearance but to boost your immune system and keep illness at bay. The exercises do not have to be complex, simple squats, push ups, sit ups, squat thrusts using the whole body is ideal. Set yourself a target time or number of repetitions then go for it, take minimal rest and then move to next exercise. 4-5 exercises, 3 to 4 rounds is perfect.
Sleeping Habits
It is good to have a regular sleeping routine, a fixed time to get up in the morning and a fixed time to go to sleep. Students will need roughly 8 hours sleep a night to ensure that they get the rest that they need. Good sleeping habits involve putting away devices at least an hour before bedtime. The ideal is to put phones and devices in a separate room or turn them off.
Time Away from your Screen
During online learning there will inevitably be a lot of screen work. You need to give yourself dedicated time away from your devices. Leave your phone somewhere else when you eat your meals. Have a physical book to read. Walk around, even if it is just walking around your apartment, also look out of the window and see the world.
It may seem like things are difficult at the moment. We understand that the world is complex right now and I am sure a lot of people are worried. Please stay positive, the Chinese government has this under control and will do everything to protect us and keep us safe and healthy.
Having a positive outlook makes everything much easier and makes difficult times less challenging.
Share your Concerns
It is important to let your teachers, parents and friends know your worries or concerns. Even if it just forgetting a homework task. Telling someone your worries helps you to get a second opinion and also it releases you from the pressure of keeping this worry all inside you. Your Head of Grade is always available to you for support.
