The crisp autumn sun brings refreshing coolness, and the national flag waves proudly. At this month’s flag-raising ceremony, a sharing session themed “Communicators” offered all teachers and students profound reflections on growth and connection.Adam and Leonya, two students from Grade 6, skillfully compared “being good at communication” to an “invisible force” that supports growth. They also clearly pointed out that communication is by no means a simple exchange of words, but an important bridge connecting oneself with others, the campus with the world.Centering on the core of the IB educational philosophy, Mr. Andrew and Ms. Susie further explained that communication is a growth practice that integrates listening, expression, collaboration and empathy, and more importantly, a core pillar for “cultivating people with a global perspective and lifelong learning ability”. Through the psychological “Communication Funnel” theory — what one thinks is 100%, but what is finally understood may be only 40% — they made everyone realize that “Communicators” requires deliberate practice: empathetic words when helping classmates and collaborative discussions when planning activities are not only vivid manifestations of “practical communication”, but also the concrete implementation of the IB “global citizenship” perspective in daily life.
This month’s “Invitation to Communication Practice” has been launched simultaneously: speak more in class, listen patiently during breaks, and think from others’ perspectives when there are differences. It is believed that when communication is truly integrated into daily life, the campus will become a warmer “growth community”, and teachers and students will grow into pursuers of light who are rooted in the present and have the world in mind through expression and listening.
