Through the golden October, we entered the long Learning week. Under the background of “double reduction”, Wuxi United International School has been focusing on the comprehensive development of students with diversified courses and abundant activities. How are the extracurricular classes arranged?Today, let’s go to secondary music class and hear what students think.Music has never been limited to hard practice, but also to broaden the vision of hearing and improve the overall aesthetic appreciation of art.G11 Keenan LiThe experience of visiting the harmonica factory gave me more respect for the instrument. In the past, musical instrument was just a tool, but when I realized that even the small and common harmonica had so many musicians and craftsmen who put so much effort into it, my instrument seemed meaningful. And the visit to Shuixian Taoist temple made me understand the different forms of music in different cultures. I used to hear funeral music, but it was just a tradition of the older generation. After the visit, I found that no matter what kind of music it is, people have come down through generations of practice and innovation, so every culture deserves our respect and appreciation.G10 Demi JinWe went to a harmonica museum, which records the history of the harmonica and displays harmonicas from different eras and countries. The harmonica museum is connected to the factory, and we learned about the process of making harmonica. Listening to the hum of the machine, I couldn’t help admiring the magnificence of the scene. After having lunch in Nanchang street, we set off for the Shuixian taoist temple. We learned about Taoist history first (I even took a look at the eight characters). Then, we went to listen to Taoist music, six Taoist played wonderful traditional Chinese music for us. Finally, the students experienced Instruments together. They played traditional Chinese Musical Instruments in the way of Western instruments. The music presented was very interesting. During this trip, I experienced the subtlety of Chinese and Western music, and the sparks generated by the combination of Chinese and Western instruments also made me sigh.G9 Wendy LiuUnder the guidance of the beautiful Ms. Wang, we visited the Narcissi Taoist Temple in Wuxi, which is located at No.598 Nanchang Street, Qingming Bridge historical and cultural block. The temple gate is opposite the ancient Canal in the South of The Yangtze River, which is famous at home and abroad. Monastery has a long history and has been rebuilt many times. It is listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Wuxi. We experienced Taoist music. The older generation of Taoists in Wuxi have learned to many kinds of instrument since childhood. They are proficient in traditional Chinese instruments. We watched the Taoist priests playing all kinds of Instruments with great momentum.Qin WangAs a music teacher, I’ve been working on pulling out of the practice room and walk into daily life. Through visits to harmonica museum and production line, students more or less understand the design, production, assemble, tuning and packaging process of an instrument, hoping that they understand that the instrument in their hands can not only play wonderful music through perfect practice, but also need their care. As for entering the Taoist temple and listening to intangible cultural heritage music, it is a kind of improvement and test of their ability to accept music. IGCSE students from temples can be linked to the world music in the music section of the study, the IBDP students can be found from AOI 1, 2, 3 are corresponding examination content and of creation and performance.
