On September 26, 2021, Peking Opera master Wang Peyu came to the school with her Peking Opera class.
From “singing, reading, walking, hands and eye movements” and the tone of “Xipi, Erhuang, narration and lyricism”, Ms. Peyu talked about how Peking Opera become a National opera. She led the students to explore the charm of Peking Opera in an easy and humorous way.
With the introduction of classical Peking Opera excerpted from “The Fourth Son Visits His Mother” and “Pearl Curtain Village”, Ms Peyu uses the tertiary rhyme of the Yu School to perform “Hao Hao Hao” and a series of network words such as “Qiang dou bu fu jiu fu ni( I will follow you)” all expressed in the distinctive way of Peking Opera, Ms Peiyu also demonstrated the expression of crying and laughter in the Peking Opera performance, and invited students to perform on stage to feel the artistic charm of Peking Opera.
This also marks the beginning of the Chinese Traditional Culture Week of Wuxi United International School. In this week, students will experience and learn Chinese traditional culture through various activities. For example, students attended Peking Opera lecture, created Peking Opera masks in art class, and secondary students composed songs and performed Peking Opera.
On September 27th, primary students went to Wuxi Huishan Clay Figurine Factory and Clay Figurine Museum to explore the past and present life of Huishan Clay Figurine.

On September 28, the actors of Wuxi opera theater came to our school with their performance. Wuxi opera is mainly singing, with elegant and lyrical tunes and strong flavor of life. It has a unique charm of Jiangnan scenery. The teachers of the Wuxi opera theater fully demonstrated the charm of Wuxi opera for secondary students through interesting lectures and vivid performances, and the students also got the opportunity to experience the “sleeves” in Wuxi opera Acting and representing emotional expression. The wonderful performance attracted many students’ applause. Students said that they didn’t know about Wuxi opera before, but through today’s lecture and performance, they not only knew a lot of knowledge of Wuxi opera, but also became interested in this drama with Jiangnan characteristics.
