What is MUN?
Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country.
Model UN is a popular activity for those interested in learning more about how the UN operates. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including at the UN itself – participated in Model UN as student.
The delegates will participate in a committee in order to debate their way to a solution regarding a specific issue.
Why should we do MUN?
You represent different countries
You learn how to think from a different perspective
Builds your public speaking, negotiating, cooperative, writing and problem-solving skills
Makes you aware of what’s happening in the world you live in
You meet new and interesting people
AND looks great on university applications
2021 Committee Options
1、Committee: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
Topic: Eliminating Child Labor
168 million children ages 5 to 17 are caught in the chains of the child labor system, deprived from their childhood, education, and health. That being said, the work of this committee to tackle child labor is more important than ever.
2、Committee: Disarmament and International Security (DISEC)
Topic: Prevention of an Arm Race in Space
Space belongs to all the people of Earth and no country can claim to own anything in space. However, countries could create weapons in space to attack other countries or get what they want. How can we keep space a peaceful place?
3、Committee: Human Rights Council (HRC)
Topic: Providing quality education for refugee children in Syria
As the Syrian crisis continues to displace communities on a massive scale, governments and civil society in the region strive to deliver quality education to refugee children and young adults from Syria.
4、Committee: General Assembly
Topic: Advancing responsible state behavior in Cyberspace in the context of international security
Technology has revolutionized the interconnectedness of the globe. However, the Internet can become a weapon in the eyes of states, criminals, and terrorists alike. These attempts to disrupt information technology systems have provoked an increasingly desperate debate on how to respond.
