With the Covid-2019 epidemic being largely contained with the common efforts of the whole country, although we can’t fully enjoy embracing each other, we can take off our face masks in the campus. Smiles are shown on the children’s faces, and the sound of reading reverberates throughout the campus. Recently the school clinic received a number of students with nose bleeds. Some students and parents are worried. The school nurse is here to share with you the causes, prevention and treatment of nose bleeding in campus.
There are lots of reasons for nose bleeding
Unilateral epistaxis is mostly caused by local causes, such as hot and dry air, various rhinitis, dry nasal mucosa, partial diet, lack of vitamins, picking nose or rubbing nostrils hard, anger and so on. Systemic diseases are the most common causes of bilateral epistaxis.
Nose bleeding is very common, most cases of which are self limited diseases, that is to say, it can control the development of the disease and gradually recover. In fact, nose bleeding can also be prevented and controlled. As long as you do the following methods, it will definitely reduce the probability of nose bleeding. Please keep in mind.
5 points of prevention
1、Please wear a face mask correctly if you have rhinitis in case of seasonal allergies to stimulate your nose and keep it moist.
2、Apply a hot towel to the external nose and nostril every day when washing your face, so as to make the air in the nasal cavity circulate smoothly and keep the nasal cavity moist. Do not rub your nose, pick your nose or put foreign objects into the nasal cavity at ordinary times.
3、Drink warm water and eat fresh fruit and vegetables as much as possible. Properly supplement vitamin C, try to avoid spicy, fried food.
4、Strengthen aerobic physical exercise to slight sweating. If there is a history of seasonal epistaxis, please do not exercise vigorously in P.E. lessons.
5、Open windows for ventilation and maintain air humidity. Use an air humidifier to improve indoor air humidity when necessary.
Please follow the steps when nose bleeding happens
Keep your head straight or slightly forward to expel blood from the nostrils. Never lean your head back. If there is blood flowing into the mouth, spit it out in time and don’t swallow it, so as to avoid a vomiting reaction caused by blood stimulation of the gastrointestinal tract.
Don’t be afraid of nose bleeding as slight bleeding is common. Prevention and skills of stopping bleeding is of key importance
At home
1、Press the front part of the nose (at the nose wing) of the bleeding side from the outside of the nose with your fingers, press it directly for about 5 to 10 minutes, and breathe with your mouth at the same time.
2、Apply ice to the root of forehead and nose and the back neck: apply cold water soaked towel, handkerchief or ice bag to the root of forehead and nose or the back of neck, change every 3-5 minutes.
At school
Please inform your homeroom teacher in time, press the bleeding part of the nose and go to the school clinic for help.
