My father always says, “You can learn more by travelling thousands of miles than by reading thousands of books.” My generation should take the whole world in view. Not only to make sightseeing tours, but also to grow experience and insights to enhance our soft power for future! To this end, I started an unforgettable study tour in the US accompanied by my parents.
Fun Tour
During this time, we visited many fun and famous places, like the world’s first Disneyland, Universal Studios in Hollywood, Legoland, Yosemite National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Google Inc., and many interesting and interactive technology museums. All those places turned me into a little mouse that fell into the rice bar and forgot about time.
Visiting Universities
We also visited four prestigious universities – Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, UCSB, and Southern California Institute of Technology. I listened to some speeches given by the students there, which inspired me a lot.
Summer Camp
Which impressed me most must be the summer camp there. I still remember on the first day, the teacher asked me where I came from and how long I had stayed in the US. When she learnt that I’m from China and just came to the US, she was very worried that I couldn’t speak English or make friends. After I told the teacher in English that I could speak English, she was relieved to let me enter the classroom.
It was a two-week drama summer camp. On the first day, the teacher announced that we were going to perform the classic repertoire Harry Potter. I felt extremely excited, because this is a movie I especially like. Then, together with the teacher, we made all the props, edited the lines and found music. What delighted me so much is that the teacher assigned a very important role to me later, because she said my English was excellent. So I got a lot of lines, 5 pages of A4 paper, but I felt so proud because I was the only Chinese child in this group. I had to work harder. Therefore, I tried my best to understand the plots, memorize the lines and practice performing. I didn’t feel it’s that hard.
On the day of the performance, all the children’s parents came. We performed for 2 hours to present a fabulous show. We enjoyed the performance a lot. Afterwards, we took photos with the teacher and celebrated with champagne. It was such a wonderful and unforgettable day.
In just five weeks, I have traveled across the ocean, experiencing different cultures and customs, which has greatly opened my mind. I’m so looking forward to similar experience again.
