The second Wednesday in April is Canada’s pink day. On this day, students and teachers go to school in pink, and sometimes the police are on duty in pink shirts. This day is the school anti-bullying day.
The origin of this campaign is that once a boy wore a pink dress to school and was teased by several older children in other schools. After seeing this, his classmates went up to support him and protested the behavior of mocking others. The next day, the students who supported him came to school in pink. From then on, this day become the pink day for everyone, developing from the whole class, the whole school to all the teachers and students and even everyone in the country.
April is the pink school anti-bullying month of WUIS primary. It aims to let children know about school bullying through daily teaching and a series of activities, helping them improve their legal consciousness, developing empathy, learning to handle conflicts correctly and stopping bullying bravely.
In P4C class, teachers lead the students to start from the classic picture book 《Tusk Tusk》, triggering a hit discussion on the concepts of discrimination, violence and prejudice. The children raised many thought-provoking questions, such as: Why does discrimination occur? Is verbal violence a form of bullying? What happens when we see the same thing from different perspectives?
In Art class, children made posters of what they have learned about bullying in order to influence more students.
In Chinese class, the children wrote a letter to their classmates and published it in dandelion weekly, letting more people hear the children’s voice.
During the “Pink anti-bullying” T-shirt design activity, children designed personalized T-shirts independently to show their understanding of school bullying and their determination to fight against school bullying. Each class voted for two best designed T-shirts.
On April 19, the anti-bullying day, all teachers and students wore pink T-shirts, and the campus became a pink sea. In the afternoon, under the guidance of the homeroom teachers, each class organized and watched the anti-bullying propaganda video, visited the poster exhibition and the best design T-shirt exhibition. The children showed great interest and enthusiasm for the activity.
After the activity, each class left a class photo to represent their determination and oath to fight against bullying.
The one-month campaign against bullying is over, but it is far from over. Hope the children will fully realize that we are not outsiders in the face of bullying! Zero tolerance for bullying! When you got bullied, stand up and say no bravely!
