As scheduled, on November 5, 2018, all the WUIS teachers and students gathered in the gym to start the flag-raising ceremony of November. Students who arrived early consciously lined up in a straight line waiting for the other students. The virtue the school learned about in this month’s flag raising ceremony was the importance of principles.
As Mr. Edwards (the Vice President of the Primary School) and Ella Zhang (the Head of Primary) said, “Principles” will initially be influenced by the family, and increasingly apparent by the influence of peers and culture. Of course, the principle of correct orientation needs to be adhered to. In the case of Giordano Bruno, he firmly adheres to the “heavenly heart”, even if he is burned to death. Of course, he is the ultimate in adhering to the “principles.”
For us, adhering to principles requires judgment. There are principles that will keep you safe in the face of the knowledge you believe in. The children in the third grade of the elementary school shared quotes from famous people that have stood up their principles. They spoke confidently and in turn in front of the whole school. A quote from Martin Luther King Jr. was used that said, “I have a dream, one day, my four children will live in such a country. They will not be judged by the color of the skin, but by their personality.”
The children of Grade Three have used their actions to show the whole school the importance of principles. The rhythmic bamboo dance let everyone see that hard work and determination can create wonderful results. Our school is committed to cultivating international citizens. It is also necessary to understand the importance of “principles”. We believe in and cherish our principles!
