In the final of the 2018 National Literacy Competition for Children in Wuxi, which just finished the first half of the year, Tiger Jin from P2A of our school won the first prize in the first-grade group with outstanding ability and excellent performance.
The National Literacy Competition for children is sponsored by the Chinese Teaching Committee of Contemporary Literature Society of China, with Peking University, Beijing Normal University, People’s Education Press and Chinese Publishing House as the academic supporting unit. The participants are from the middle class of kindergarten to the fourth grade of primary school. This competition advocates our tradition of children’s literacy, spreads the scientific literacy enlightenment method, allows the children to master the commonly used Chinese characters which can read freely in the golden period of literacy and cultivates the reading interest and habit as soon as possible to experience the fun of reading and ready to learn both Chinese and other subjects, in order to improve reading ability and learning ability to lay the foundation for life.
From the online quiz to the final, it was a tough way for Tiger. As an ethnic Korean, whose mother tongue is not Chinese, he has to spend part of his energy learning English and trying to digest three languages, which is not easy for a child who is just in the first grade. However, with the strong interest in Chinese characters and the encouragement from teachers and parents, Tiger finally got up the courage to sign up for the literacy competition, and made a detailed reading plan, and began to make intensive preparations. In the daily reading, especially in the study of ancient poetry, his literacy has been steadily improved, and his level of Chinese has been improved at a visible speed. Finally, he received the good news of reaching the final.
In June, accompanied by his parents, Tiger came to the finals. Many other excellent competitors were amazed at Tiger’s solid foundation of Chinese characters. And finally Tiger stood out, winning the first prize of the first-grade group, and was invited by the program team as a representative to participate in the 2018 China middle school students competition show presentation ceremony. With nervousness and excitement, Tiger arrived at the award ceremony on the evening of August 28, where he accepted the award and gave his acceptance speech. He felt a little bit disappointed because of forgetting his word on the stage that night, but in fact he has already been the pride of WUIS with his own diligence and effort.
With him as a model, I believe that in the future, we will have more little literacy experts, and achieve better results!
