Reviewing and reflecting on previous work and achievements is an essential part of an effective students life. The Visual Arts department, high on the fourth floor, is currently exhibiting artwork completed by our talented students. This work was completed at the end of last year by our current Grade 10 IGCSE students when they were in Grade 9, and Grade 12 DP students when they were in Grade 11. The Grade 9 students completed a portrait paintings of a member of their family or a good friend. The Grade 11 students completed plaster carvings inspired by the British artist, Barbara Hepworth.

Our IB DP and our IGCSE classes are in full swing with a lot of hard work and learning already happening in the department. Below are images from our IGCSE Grade and IB DP classes. Both the IB DP and the IGCSE are intensive two year courses for Visual Arts where the majority of the student’s marks come from coursework.
Last year, the British illustrator Luke Grey came to the school as our Artist-in-Residence. He worked specifically with our IB DP students, engaging in critical artist research for the comparative study component of their final Visual Arts examination. He also created a site specific mural located on the first floor near the Grand Theatre. The students also made personal artwork in response to his internationally minded mural, as did our Grade 10s in their preparation for the IB Diploma. This year, Grade 7 Visual Arts students will use the mural as inspiration for their first art making activity.
Our students at have received offers from some of the top Arts Universities world-wide, an indication of the strength of Visual Arts education at SUIS:Wuxi.
