Do you remember what you looked like when you were ten? Innocent and ignorant, happy and curious, everything was so beautiful! On June 1, a date celebrated around the world as Children’s Day, we recalled the innocence and happiness of being ten years old with the G3 children of Wuxi United International School.
On the red carpet, the bright lights were twinkling, as melodious music accompanied the glamorously dressed children and parents arrived to attend the big event hand in hand. An exclusive gratitude video kicked off the event in the auditorium. On camera, students expressed their gratitude to the ones they loved. Parents were moved to the point of tears – but they proud tears in their eyes.
The first ten years is significant because it is the time when a child begins the gradual transition into becoming teenager. During the past years, parents have nurtured their children. Teachers have educated them. Friends have helped them. And, during this time, the most important part was that they never gave up and always tried their best. The 10-year celebration is about thanking all those who have helped the children and also congratulating the children themselves for their hard work and determination.
Children are like the early birds who rise with the sun. They can sing the most beautiful song. Students performed a traditional Martial Arts show which combined the spirit of perseverance and youth. For truly great men, look to this age alone.
Next, it was the parents’ turn. They solved multiple math problems with their intelligence, which had not diminished in the years since their turning ten. Children applauded warmly for their parents.
On this special day, the teachers also sent sincere wishes to the children in the form of a poem written especially for them.
English drama The Wizard of Oz took the celebration into top gear. The actors and actresses had dedicated themselves to it in the weeks before the big day, and their hard work paid off. They gained rapturous applause from the audience for their fantastic performance.
In total, it took more than four months to prepare for the 10-year celebration across all the curriculum subjects, but it could not have been a successful celebration without parents… and they had a surprise for their children – a creatively choreographed dance performance which no one saw coming!
The game of recognizing teachers as children pushed the whole activity to another climax. On the screen, photos of teachers when they were ten years old appeared. Children stared with their eyes wide open and tried to work out who they were.
Since the children were born, parents cared for them and brought up them with love in their hearts, but time has slipped by and now their children have arrived at a turning point in their lives. As they watched the photographs which showed how their children have grown, parents exclaimed how quickly time had passed by. Class representatives gave flowers to the parents’ committee without whose selfless help this event would not have been possible.
As they prepare to begin the next part of their journey towards adulthood, children embraced the future with their imagination and words by writing letters to their future selves and posting them in the post box time capsule.
Courtesy is the key principle of the students. Diligence is the key attitude of the students. Elegance is the key manner of the students. Students grow and change with age, and time can pass so quickly, but holding hopes and dreams in our hearts, let’s embark on the next part of this exciting journey together.
