The Spring puts greenness on the vine.
In Summer, the lotus blossoms grow.
In Autumn, the fruit is turned to wine.
Finally, the ground is lined with Winter snow.
The poem describes the beauty of the seasons, and the four seasons are also as beautiful as the poetry. On a late Spring evening, the first WUIS Ancient Chinese Poetry competition came to a close.
In this competition, students from the third to the fifth grade participated. Before the competition , the teachers carefully prepared the ancient poetry question bank. However, after fierce auditions, just three delegates from each class were selected to participate in the grand final.
The rhythm was lively, as the melodious “Like a Dream” opened the first poetry contest. The girls on the stage danced like fairies, gracing the stage with a wonderful show. It was the perfect fusion of the classic and the modern, and gave the classical poetry new vitality.
The competition was divided into four parts: the individual contest, a quick-fire round, team competition and the final round. First of all, in the individual battle, each class’s contestant answered multiple-choice questions. The contestants were well prepared, and they confidently answered questions to win points.
During the quick-fire round, not only was the contestants’ knowledge of ancient poetry tested, but also their ability to respond quickly. When the contestants answered the questions correctly, the audience applauded warmly.
Encouraging teamwork has always been one of the key ideas of Xiehe education. Team sports test children’s ability to cooperate. The children demonstrated seamless cooperation, with clear roles assigned – who reads the question, and who writes. Questions were answered with the utmost efficiently. This kind of understanding is not created overnight, but accumulated over a much longer period of practice of classroom cooperation.
In the final round, each class was represented on stage, with students required to step into the center circle if they knew the answer to a question. The audience drew their breath as the competition reached its climax, and students rushed to answer questions to secure victory for their class.
The contestants read poetry and basked in the beautiful mood like fish swimming freely through serene waters. A song called “Fish Play Lotus Leaf” lets the audience see the gorgeous Jiangnan lotus pond, the beauty of lotus flowers, the freedom of fish in the waters below.
Poetry is an intoxicating eternal classic, capable of making people happy. As we read poetry, we can imagine the beautiful scenery and speak with the ancients. WUIS’s founding concept is East meets West, and today we saw students delving deeper into the East, exploring the intricacies of Chinese poetry, and witnessed how they are nourished with each and every classical verse.
