“In the sound of firecrackers, the soft spring breeze sends warm to tu su. Thousands of families, on the day of that day, always replace the old ones with the new ones. During the Spring Festival holiday, Grade 5 students at WUIS carried out a special and an interesting practical activity “Read Poetry Together”. The event is a prelude to the school’s “Ancient Poetry Contest” which will happen in May 2018. The purpose is to have a survey and understanding of the public understanding of Chinese ancient poetry culture.
All students set up their groups independently and autonomously before the activity, as well as determining who’s going to be the poet to research. They also named their groups with thoughtful and elegant names according to the background of the poet they are going to research. Meanwhile, they assigned each one of the group a different role, like, questionnaire designing, board designing, camera shooting, statistical recording, etc.
.
Of course, we do appreciate all supports from every part, our parents, our volunteering photographers. We are really moved that even Chris’s grandpa did lots of support to Chris group with handwriting poem at night
All students from each group all collected the questionnaires they used during the interview. They wrote the final feedback with the numbers and answers they got from the interview. Even though we can’t see how well their feedback is, we can see how well they organize their language and great ideas they showed for the activity.
They all shared their feelings when they’re back to school.
Rick:This time, I enjoyed thinking about the discussion together. We had several video meetings to agree on the content of the questionnaire. We had an argument, but we were happy.
Chris:This activity, I gain a lot of, feeling a lot. A practice interview, a lot of details are to think again and again. On the day of the interview, we arrived at the scene and found the problem. We temporarily adjusted and cooperated with each other. I look forward to the next Chinese practice.
Stanley:Taking part in the “reading the poem together” time activity, I feel a lot of gains, let us experience from shyness to self-confidence, it is a wonderful experience. It is definitely a challenge for me to be shy. It is also a growth.
Maria:This experience I think is great, let us exercise the ability, more can know the public’s understanding of ancient Chinese poetry. Some of the findings were surprising. The interview requires skill, the way of speaking and the intonation, so as to make the interviewee feel comfortable and relaxed!
Through this activity, they got lots of feelings and experiences, they also performed their talents about students at WUIS in public. Meanwhile, they bring the astonishing awareness of Chinese poem culture to the public. As a brand new generation, we do and definitely have the responsibility to inherit our traditional Chinese culture. We also hope this kind of activity can really recall people’s knowledge about our culture, as well as feeling the elegance and experiencing the amazing words and culture in that.
