In our technologically advanced world it is imperative that our students are able to use technology to enhance their learning. It is also important that they learn self-control with regards to technology before they reach university, giving them good habits now.
In our school we do not ban devices, we guide them to use their wisely.
Our students are using technology in their classes in a whole range of areas.
In Biology the students were looking at cell through a microscope in our biology lab. They used their smart phones to document the cells that they saw.
In another Biology lesson the students used a gas pressure reader that can be connected to a smart phone. They were doing an enzyme reaction and measuring the resulting pressure change. Some of the students also used an oxygen sensor to identify the gas produced. In the sciences apps can be used to aid the collation and analysis of data.
In a Visual Art lesson the students were so proud of their artwork they photographed their drawing to share with their family.
In English as a Second Language students are using https://readtheory.org/ to improve their reading comprehension.
Not to mention the use of smart phones for as dictionaries, connecting to the Internet for research. Now there are many revision apps and interactive apps that even help students with their university choices.
There are even apps to help students cite their sources correctly, just by scanning the bar code of the book.
Our new prefect group are developing their journalism by creating their own official student WeChat account.
We believe that Technology empowers us as learners. Let it power us, not distract us.
