How many of us could define our dreams and work hard for them in high school? Recently, when I reviewed the Japanese anime “Slam Dunk”, I reacquainted myself with a classmate- Akagi Takenori. He has excellent grades and is eager to help others. He leads the Shohoku basketball team to practice hard and march forward for his dream of dominating the whole country
In WUIS, we also have such a group of enthusiastic young people. In addition to study, they also take an active part in extracurricular activities to improve themselves and serve the community. As early as grade 9 when they were enrolled in IGCSE, they chose courses and extracurricular activities related to their future majors. In the IB stage, more students started to establish CAS (creation, action and service) activities and clubs independently to give full play to their talents and leadership. At present, grade 12 students are doing well in learning and activities, and leading the school’s extracurricular activities in various fields.v
Head Boy
Mark
As early as seventh grade, Head Boy Mark Yang tried to edit and make his own short films. At the IB learning stage, he made full use of the school’s rich film curriculum resources. In the process of comparative analysis of eastern and western films and communication with teachers and students, his critical thinking and writing skills have been improved rapidly. At the same time, he also realized the significance of practice in supplementing theoretical knowledge, and the production of films needs to be constantly improved in practice. To that end, he started a film club and attended the Shanghai Film Festival. It takes a long time to conceive and prepare a short film, sometimes a whole day to shoot in the dog days, and a lot of time to edit later. In addition to filming, he also worked as a producer, finding locations for films, contacting actors and providing equipment. I watched the short film that Mark made. His technique is sophisticated and the plot is also exciting and thought-provoking. Meanwhile, he gradually made it clear that he wanted to study in Japan. While studying Japanese hard, Mark also polished his film-making skills. He made unremitting efforts towards his dream. We hope his dream will come true. There are a lot of “Mark Yang” in WUIS who are working hard on their dreams.
Captain of the Girl’s Football Team
Linda
Linda Wang, who always wants to be engaged in sports-related work, trained hard after joining the school’s girl’s football team and soon became the captain. In her spare time, she is studying how to train the players and lead the team to play better. So far, she has received offers to study in sports science at four UK universities, including Loughborough University, in which Sports Science major ranks top 3 in Europe.
Business Leader
Black
Speaking of business competitions, we will think of Black Chen, the first student in WUIS to organize and lead business competitions. He led his team to win the third place in the Microbiz Competition at the 16th Future Business Leaders Summit. He was also awarded the best CEO. At present, he has received the offer from Marquette University with scholarship equivalent to about 330,000 yuan as well as the offer from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Looking forward to his good news in the RD application round.
Leader of Girl’s Dancing Club
Angela
Angela, who chose to study Women Studies at university, has been studying dance for 14 years and leads a girls’ dancing group. She choreographs and trains the members by herself. By far, she has received the offers from University of Toronto, Queen’s University and the University of British Columbia in Canada and Wheaton College with scholarship of 900,000 yuan in USA.
Captain of the Boy’s Basketball Team
Sunny
Sunny Li, who has been playing basketball for 6 years, is the star captain of school’s basketball team. When the school was short of coaches, he took the initiative to communicate with school leaders and set up the school basketball team. In addition, he is also one of the anchors of the school radio station. A male anchor who can’t play basketball is not a good accountant (kidding). He wants to study accounting in the future and has received offers from four British universities, including University of Manchester.
In WUIS, every student has his or her own distinctive characteristics. The school respects every student and tries its best to provide them with space for growth, opportunities for development and sufficient resources to learn. These high school students have learned theoretical knowledge in line with international universities throughout IB stage and accumulated rich practical experience. In this process, they have gradually grown into adults who know how to allocate their time properly and are willing to take social responsibilities with grace and warmth. IB curriculum is undoubtedly an all-round education.
Akagi cried when Shohoku defeated Ryonan to qualify for the national competition. I also shed tears of joy. Those who invest great and long-term efforts to realize their dreams deserve our applause. Come on, young people, the future belongs to you!
