At the moment every student in China is engaged in online learning, probably the largest online learning event in history. Together we are making history and overcoming the hurdles the novelcorona virus has created.
At WUIS secondary school we are very well prepared with a whole range of online learning platforms to our students are making rapid progress in their learning.
For our IB Diploma students in Grades 11 and 12 we have Managebac, hosted in China https://wids.managebac.cn/ . Which is used as learning platform for students to upload their work, get feedback on their assignments and have learning resources shared with them to support their learning. It also supports messaging and online discussion foriums.
Also, for our IB Diploma students we have award winning Kognity https://wuis.kognity.com/ that offers students online, interactive textbooks, used by top IB Schools all over the world.
Kognity has
● Comprehensive coverage of a range of the IBDP’s latest curriculum guides
●Carefully-curated videos, animations and simulations
●Key terms defined and language made accessible for international learners
● Extensive exam-style questions
● Internal Assessment guides
Kognity is also used in our Grades 9 and 10 with their IGCSE Coordinated Sciences and their IGCSE Mathematics.
For our Grades 7 – 10 we also have Xiehe Moodle platformhttp://suiswx.com:8887/. This is also hosted in China allowing our students access to online resources and teacher feedback. Moodle has a whole range of options including discussion forums, assessments, quizzes and resource sharing.
Moodle, Managebac and wechat facilitate all students to submit work and then teacher to mark work and give immediate feedback to their students.
Online learning has many forms. There is Synchronous online Learning (live lessons) – set time for all the students and teacher to attend and participate in the learning. Also, there is Asynchronous online learning where students are given tasks and interact but not live, however asynchronous online learning will have specified deadlines for students to contribute to discussions or submit work to a platform.
We also have teachers who are sharing teacher videos demonstrating tasks or sharing expertise. We also have teachers doing screencasts, where a teacher video records their computer screen with added audio. Teachers are using CCTalk and Screen-o-matic to record their lessons and then share with students.
We also have https://quizlet.com/zh-cn and https://quizizz.com/ used by teachers as an assessment for learning tool. Kahoot too as a fun competitive learning too. https://kahoot.it/
Increasingly have more and more teachers doing live Video Conference Lessons, Synchronous online Learning (live lessons). Where teacher and students are in a live video conference together for a Synchronous online Learning lesson. For this they are using applications like Zoom.us and wechat (if a small group of students). This allows students for a more social learning experience. As our teachers become more confident with these platforms, we will see more lessons like these.
We also have students sharing their learning through photographs and videos. This is an excellent practice as it gives students a method to visualise their learning and show their thinking or process.
We are very excited about the new feedback and potentially increased personalised learning online learning can support.
