As the winter campus brims with warmth, the Young Teachers’ Demo Lesson Activity at WUIS has successfully concluded! From December 2nd to 5th, more than ten young teachers stepped onto the podium, building a diverse learning stage centered on students. In the teaching practice of integrating Chinese and Western education, expression and cooperation became the main themes of the classrooms, with each young teacher showcasing unique highlights in their lessons.

Adhering to the “student-oriented” principle throughout the classes, teachers adopted interactive forms such as group collaboration, critical thinking discussions, and hands-on exploration, transforming students from “passive listeners” to “active learners” and fully releasing classroom vitality.

The Grade 2 English lesson Giving Directions was full of fun and challenges. Creating life – like scenarios, the teacher helped children master English direction – giving expressions joyfully via role – playing, and developed their English application and communication skills. In the P4C class themed around The Cat Who Lived a Million Times, students engaged in group discussions, expressed their ideas boldly, and deepened their understanding through ideological collisions. For the math lesson Problem-Solving Strategies 2, the teacher cleverly designed situational tasks, organizing students to explore problem-solving approaches in groups, visualizing abstract mathematical thinking, and guiding them to master diverse strategies through mutual assistance. In the Chinese lesson Two Treasures, situational simulations and role-playing activities helped students deeply understand the importance of “hands and brains,” stimulating their imagination and creativity through practical interaction.

Leveraging life-oriented and thematic contexts as learning carriers, teachers connected knowledge with reality through immersive interaction, enhancing students’ ability to apply knowledge and their comprehensive literacy.

In the math lesson Division with Remainders, students solved the principles and practical applications of remainders through group hands-on division games, accurately overcoming teaching difficulties and effectively improving their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities. In the PE lesson Silk Road Explorer (orienteering), students collaborated to plan routes and complete challenges, learning teamwork through practice. The teacher innovatively integrated physical exercise with interesting scenarios, not only enhancing students’ physical fitness but also strengthening their team spirit and communication skills in challenging activities.

Covering literature, art, language, science, and other fields, the lessons took “interaction” as the link, integrating core competency cultivation into classroom teaching, and helping students achieve dual improvement in personality and comprehensive abilities through participation and exploration.

• Literary Competence: In the picture book reading lesson Inch by Inch, students actively shared their reading insights, fostering literary perception and language expression skills through communication. In Elements of Poetry, students analyzed poetic structure and rhythm in groups, collaborated on writing short poems, and appreciated the beauty of poetry while enhancing literary literacy. In the Play Script – Horror lesson, students co-created thrilling plots and designed character dialogues, improving their language expression and story construction abilities through creative interaction.

• Language Competence: English lessons such as ELA Phonics and I Can Use Cooking Nouns with Verbs adopted life-related themes, integrating vocabulary learning with creative expression. Through diverse language practice activities, teachers stimulated students’ interest in learning and effectively improved their comprehensive language application skills.

• Art and Scientific Competence: In the music lesson Celebrating the New Year, groups collaborated on choreographing rhythmic performances, conveying joy through singing and movements. In the art lesson Frank Gehry’s Strange Buildings, students divided tasks to create works and shared ideas, transforming abstract concepts into tangible creations. In the science lesson The Function of Stems, groups conducted experiments and recorded data to explore plant stem functions. Guided by rigorous scientific inquiry processes, teachers helped students develop scientific thinking and experimental operation skills through observation, analysis, and summary.

Behind these wonderful lessons lies the systematic training of young teachers by WUIS. Relying on the “Star Teacher Club” to build a platform for exchange and discussion, and implementing targeted support through the “Mentor-Mentee Program,” the school helps young teachers quickly consolidate their teaching foundation and deepen the “student-centered” educational philosophy. From their initial tentative explorations on the podium to now proficiently teaching interactive inquiry and contextualized integration lessons, and integrating Chinese and Western educational ideas into classrooms —— young teachers have not only achieved rapid improvement in teaching skills but also undergone a philosophical transformation from “imparting knowledge” to “cultivating competencies” under WUIS’s training system.
In the future, these young teachers who have grown up on WUIS’s fertile soil will continue to bring vitality and professional expertise, building a bridge for students to embrace the world. The school’s goal of “cultivating future citizens with Chinese roots and international perspectives” will continue to take root and flourish in the classrooms.
