On the afternoon of February 12, the school theater was abuzz with excitement as we welcomed the opening ceremony for the spring semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, themed “Igniting the Journey to 2025” The event aimed to stimulate students’ contemplation on future education models by exploring AI applications and encouraging innovative approaches to education.
Prior to the commencement of the ceremony, an engaging warm-up video showcased highlights from the 2025 Spring Festival Gala in Wuxi, setting a festive tone for the new semester ahead.
AI in Action
Ms. Kruthika, head of the Computer Science Department, presented an impressive AI technology demonstration. The exhibition included real-time problem-solving in mathematics, English composition correction, knowledge point mind map generation, and physics problem-solving. She also mentioned that AI tools can be highly beneficial for learning but it’s important to use them responsibly and critically. We need to avoid over-reliance on AI for assignments or exams. Be cautious about sharing personal or sensitive information and do not use it to plagiarise or cheat in academic work. Through PPT presentations and live demonstrations, attendees gained a comprehensive understanding of AI’s potential applications in education.
Interactive Q&A
G12 student Leo Chen and Wind Guo moderated an interactive Q&A session covering topics such as DeepSeek knowledge Q&A, academic integrity scenarios, and multiple-choice questions on AI usage norms. Students actively participated, enhancing their critical thinking skills and earning small New Year gifts.
Student Showcase
During the video presentation session, short films created by G9-11 Computer Science students using software like DeepSeek were displayed. These films explored themes such as Chinese New Year celebrations, the future of technology, cultural exchanges, AI applications in education, and environmental protection, showcasing the students’ creativity and talent.
Traditions in China
Mr. Andy Zhang and Ms. Emma Yang from Chinese Department delivered a presentation on “Ancient and Modern Lantern Festival,” blending traditional culture with modern technology.
The hosts concluded the opening ceremony with heartfelt wishes, expressing hopes for everyone’s success in studies and happiness in the New Year.
